	Currency Australian currency comes in: 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2 coins and $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 notes.

	Foreign Exchange Foreign currency can be changed at most banks and at Bureaux de Change operated in major centres. Ensure you have a credit card or Australian currency if travelling away from major towns but be aware that credit card facilities can be limited in some remote areas.

	Banks and Financial Services Banking hours are: 9.30am to 4pm, Monday to Thursday, 9.30am to 5pm, Fridays, closed Saturdays, Sundays & Public Holidays. Credit unions offer similar services to banks and may be open on Saturdays between 9am and 2pm, although not all offer reciprocal services between different credit unions. Australia Post offices offer Giropost facilities, which give access to credit union transactions. The hours of Bureaux de Change vary according to locations and operators. Australia's major banks have branches and agencies in Alice Springs. 	Time The Northern Territory operates on Central Standard Time which is Universal Coordinated Time (GMT) plus nine hours 30 minutes. It does not join other Australian States, which adopt Daylight Saving Time.

	Translation Services Assistance with English can be obtained by phoning (08) 8951 5389 in Alice Springs or by phoning the Translating and Interpreter Service on 131 450. This service operates 24 hours a day for the cost of a local call.

	Postal Services The Alice Springs Post Office is located on Hartley Street. It is open between 8:15am and 5pm Monday to Friday, closed Saturdays, Sundays & Public Holidays. The Ayers Rock Resort Post Office is located in the town shopping mall. It trades between 9am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday and 10am and 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays.


	Disabled Access Quest Alice Springs have rooms specially equipped for access for disabled people. A number of Central Australian National Parks have facilities enabling access for people with disabilities.

	Climate and Clothing Casual clothing is very much a part of Northern Territory life, but restaurants, hotels, clubs and Casinos expect patrons to wear neat and tidy dress. Outdoors, wear a shady hat, a shirt and sun screen for protection from the sun and comfortable walking shoes. Central Australia has four seasons with large temperature ranges between day and night. Mid-year night temperatures can drop to 0ºC.

	Visitor Information Centre Central Australian Tourism offers comprehensive information services at the Visitor Information Centre on Gregory Terrace. A Visitor Information desk is also located at the Alice Springs Airport and the Alice Springs Railway Station. Some touring company offices in the main shopping precincts offer touring advice and booking services.
